There’s something special about being a fan and getting to watch an artist continue to evolve.
As Nick Carter moves into the next chapter of his solo career, and putting the finishing touches on his newest album, there’s one thing I hope he never loses: the willingness to let us see the real person behind the artist.
His last solo album “Love, Life, Tragedy” felt different because of that vulnerability. It wasn’t simply an album of songs, or a grouping of music that he thought the audience wanted from him. It felt like a snapshot of Nick at a particular point in his life. The emotions, the stories, and the experiences behind the music gave the songs another dimension. Even when we didn’t know every detail of what inspired a particular lyric, there was a feeling that we were hearing something personal.
And that’s what I hope continues with the next album.
More than anything, I want to hear Nick’s words. Not just great melodies or catchy choruses (although of course we love those too), but his perspective. His experiences. His observations about life, love, family, friendship, loss, growth, happiness, uncertainty, and everything in between. This was what I loved most about “Love, Life, Tragedy” and I hope we continue to see that from him.
Nick has lived a lot of life since his first solo album. He’s grown up in front of the world, spent decades performing, built a family, experienced incredible highs and heartbreaking lows, and continued to figure out who he is as an individual artist, but not only as an artist, as a human…
That’s a lot of life to write about.
I’d love for this album to be another musical time capsule of who Nick is right now. Not who he was years ago. Not who people expect him to be because he’s Nick Carter. But Nick Carter, the solo artist, the family man, in this exact moment. Those are the stories I want to hear. And that is the Nick that we have come to love in these most recent projects he has shared with us.
One of the things that makes an album even more meaningful is hearing the stories behind the songs. Sometimes a song hits differently when you know what inspired it. Maybe Nick wrote a lyric at 3 in the morning after something happened. Maybe a particular melody came from an unexpected writing session. Maybe a song took years to finish. Maybe it started with one meaning and then shifted directions during the writing process. Maybe the song that sounds like a love song is actually about something completely different.
We would love for you to tell us those stories, Nick.
With “Love, Life, Tragedy”, we got to hear so many of those stories through the Listening Parties and events you held. Those were so intimate, genuine, and enlightening. There’s something incredibly special about hearing an artist play an album for fans and being able to talk about the songs as they’re introduced. It creates an intimacy that you just don’t get from streaming an album for the first time alone.
And it doesn’t have to stop with the songs that ultimately make the album.
I’d love to hear the songs that almost made it. The demos. The alternate versions. The songs that went in a completely different direction. The ones Nick loves but maybe didn’t fit the final story of the album. Because sometimes the songs left behind tell just as much of a story as the ones that make the final tracklist. I’d happily sit in a room and listen to Nick talk about every single one. And I know so many of his fans would say the same.
And imagine a storyteller-style show built around the album. We would absolutely love that event! Nick sitting on a small stage with a microphone, maybe a guitar, and a room full of fans. No huge production. No elaborate choreography. Just Nick, his music, and his stories, talking about the writing process. He could share memories from the studio, explain why certain lyrics mean something to him. Maybe answer a few fan questions.
Something that Nick has done a lot of in the last several years is giving us those behind the scenes looks at what it’s like in the studio. Back in the COVID days, we even had a live look into a recording session which was amazing to watch! And of course we can’t forget the time he actually invited fans INTO THE STUDIO while he was re-recording “Help Me” in Toronto (I”m still jealous I missed that!). He is so good at showing us the process and the journey, and we love that! I really hope Nick invites us in for some more of those looks. Personally, I am so curious to know what it is like at the songwriter’s table. I’d love to see what that moment is like when they get that line right or when the song suddenly comes together. Songwriting and recording can be such a mysterious process to fans. We hear the finished three-minute song, but there’s an entire journey behind those three minutes. And Nick does so much to help us learn and take us along in that journey. And we would love for him to continue with that!
All this to say, we are so excited to see what Nick comes up with next. We want to hear the authentic voice that he brings to his music, and hopefully, continue some of the amazing things he already does to give us a look into the process.
We wouldn’t mind some opportunities to participate in the process with you if they came up…
And most importantly, we want to see Nick shine the way he has been.
