Thoughts: Why I’m excited about @NickCarter’s “19 in ’99” and I haven’t heard it yet #NickCarterAlbum

There’s not much that Nick Carter has done that I don’t at least like a little. His first solo album, “Now or Never,” is still one of my favorite records. His song with fellow Georgia girl Jennifer Paige is one of my favorite duets.

And let’s face it, “The Hollow” is legendary, but “Kill Speed” was kind of… eh.

But when Nick tweeted out some of the titles from his upcoming album, one stuck out to me – “19 in ’99.” Odd title right? Not for me.

Like Nick, I was born in 1980 and I was 19 years old in 1999. Sure, we turned 18 (the legal age) the year before, but in 1999, Nick kind of came into his own with his voice and with the success of Millennium. He was 19 years old and on top of the world in 1999.

In 1999, I was 19, lost, confused and just finding my love of writing… because of that other 19 year old.

Obviously none of us have heard the song yet, but in my head I imagine it being like Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69.” That song is about a summer that Bryan would never forget… kind of like how 1999 is a year that Nick will never forget. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the song will come out being this big ballad or something. It’s just my intuition and feeling.

And let’s face it, I’m pretty good at figuring that stuff out.

In 2002, July in fact, a clip of his song “My Confession” snuck online and I was shocked since it was the name of my fan fiction site. That always stuck close to me, because the song had such a meaning to me.

I have a feeling “19 in ’99” is going to have that same kind of feeling. And after teasing us about it, it better be on the record, Carter.

This song will end up being one of my all-time favorite songs along with “My Confession,” “Shameless” by Garth Brooks and “Always On My Mind” by Elvis Presley.

And I haven’t even heard it yet.
