Opinion: I have never been more proud to be a @BackstreetBoys / @NKOTB fan

by | Oct 9, 2014 | Backstreet Boys, Boy Bands, Opinion | 0 comments

On Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, New Kids on the Block received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just one blow below the star of the Backstreet Boys. The Backstreet Boys received their star on April 22, 2013, two days after their 20th anniversary.

I have been a fan of the New Kids since I was in second or third grade. I was born in 1980, so I was the prime target after for their fanbase. They were my first concert when I was fourth grade on their Summer Magic Tour.

I became a Backstreet Boys fan on May 1, 1998 when I saw them perform at Grad Nite at Walt Disney World. I was a senior in high school and about to graduate and falling for another boy band was the last thing I expected.

The NKOTBSB tour in 2011 and 2012 was one of the best tours that ever happened to me. The merging of my two favorite groups that represented two separate parts of my lives.

Having met the Backstreet Boys several times, and Nick Carter more times than I can count, I never thought a band could appreciate their fans more, but New Kids on the Block are the same way. I met them a few times last summer (2013) and seeing Donnie Wahlberg get chocked up today while talking during the Hall of Fame ceremony, it made me remember that.

And to think that their stars are next to one another. It was as if the groups coming together for NKOTBSB and then the “spin-off” as they are calling it, Nick and Knight, was written in the stars.

I can only hope that they do that tour again one day, because nothing makes me happier than to see my 10 favorite guys on stage together.

Thanks to Jhie for sending me the photo 🙂
