Thoughts: Thank you @KevinRichardson and @Brian_Littrell for showing us what you’re made of

Today, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell are going to be inducted in the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. It’s a big deal. Think about it. When they were young, Kevin and Brian dreamed of one day being Hall-of-Fame status. It took twenty-one years to get there, but they’ve finally arrived to their destination, and they’re being honored by not only the fans but the music industry and the state of Kentucky – their home, the hardest place to be seen as something special. I know, thanks to seeing the BSB Movie, that it was in no way easy to make the dream reality. They’ve been through hell. But that makes the achievement that much better. Like Miranda Lambert sang, “It’s only worth as much as the time put in.”

Maybe it’s just me that’s taking this triumph so personally, and maybe it’s just because it happens to be falling on the last week of the last semester of my college life. As of next week, I’ll be finished with earning my Bachelor of Arts degree and because of that I’m already in a super nostalgic mood. I keep looking back over all the hard work it took to get to where I am and thinking about how incredibly huge it is to finally, finally be at this pinnacle. It’s breath-taking. It’s taken a lot out of me – a lot of years, a lot of hard work, a lot of believing in myself, a lot of sacrifice. But I made it.

I can’t help but wonder if that’s what Kevin and Brian feel like as they prepare to celebrate the accomplishment of being honored as inductees to the Hall of Fame.

Sure there is a certain amount of natural talent and maybe even an element of luck to the story that backs Kevin and Brian up, but there’s a hell of a lot more hard work, dedication, and sacrifice than anything else. Those Kentucky Cousins fought tooth and nail to achieve all that they have, and they’ve reached it at long last. They had a dream, they worked to get it, and they got it. They showed the world what they are made of.

I feel like this is an important lesson for the fans of the Backstreet Boys. All ages and all walks of life will benefit from this lesson. Things don’t just get handed to you, and you can’t expect the world to fall into your lap. If there’s something out there you want, you have to go out after it. But you can do it, if you believe in yourself and work hard at it and never, ever give up. That’s the key. Because there were times for Kevin and Brian that things seemed impossible, too, but they pressed on and they did it. Do it. Do whatever it is you’re dreaming about.

Thank you, Kevin and Brian, for showing us that everything is possible if we work hard and believe. You have been an inspiration to me, and will continue to be as I work on building my career as a graphic designer following my official graduation.

It was an honor to design the ad for you all in the Kentucky Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Program. I hope that you love it. We worked hard as a group to get the ad placed for you, to thank you and tell you how much your hard work means to us. You’ve given us all so much over so many years. This is a celebration of a musical artist’s contributions but of so much more than that.

I hope that you love it.

I hope that you have a wonderful day, celebrating your achievements and knowing that you’ve inspired all of us fans to be better, brighter people.
