Backstreet Boys announced their “Larger Than Life” Las Vegas residency on September 23, 2016. With dates in March, June and July being the first shows announced. The residency was held at The Axis auditorium located inside the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The Axis later changed it’s name to Zappos Theater.
“Larger Than Life” is the fastest selling residency in Las Vegas history. In the first Fan Club pre-sale on September 25, 2016 tickets grossed to 1 million dollars. Due to the show selling out pretty quickly more dates were announced for April 2017 on October 24, 2016. A month after the original announcement. They had originally planned to just do 9 shows. After 2 years they did 80 shows.
Planet Hollywood added more seats in the balcony section during a few Satruday shows. This was the first time that they opened up balcony seating. They have never done this for any other residency show.
During the November 17, 2017 show James Corden joined the Backstreet Boys on stage and performed “Larger Than Life” with them. For part of the performance Brian was not involved. The guys had filmed a skit with James for his Late Late Show where he had one of the guys take a break and he took their place. It aired July 25, 2018.
On April 10, 2019 Backstreet Boys were given the keys to the city of Las Vegas and it was declared Backstreet Boys Day. A few days later on April 12th BSB participated at a hand-print ceremony at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Throughout the two year run various celebrities attended and some were even brought up on stage during “Shape of My Heart” where the guys usually choose a fan to serenade.
Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Perez Hilton, Snookie (Jersey Shore), Steven Tyler (he had his girlfriend on stage and later joined), Shania Twain, Donny & Marie Osmond, Criss Angel and Andy Cohen.
A few times the guys would bring up their kids or wives during “Shape Of My Heart” or other portions of the show. All of their wives were brought up on stage during the final show.
