Socializing with fellow fangirls in 2020 takes a little creativity and technology. Celebrating a big milestone like a birthday or a baby shower has now turned to “virtual” get-togethers.
Fans all over the world are missing the Backstreet Boys. The boys are missing their fans too. So what better way than to welcome our friends and the boys into our homes.
AJ had a few Looped Live calls back in April 2020. I missed that opportunity but I was glad so many fans shared their videos with us through Facebook and Twitter.
I was lucky enough to catch the Livestream of Howie Eatz on May 15, 2020. That was fun and educational since we learned how to make something delicious.
Of course, I can’t forget the 2-day Nick Carter Fan Club event. Nick live-streamed a hour long performance for fan club members only and offered virtual meet & greets afterward. I was able to buy 2 Looped live calls with Nick, one for myself and the other for my daughter Chloe.
But it’s just not The Backstreet Boys who are using technology to connect with their fans. The fandom is a close knit family. We are used to traveling from city to city to see the boys, but also to see each other. Since no traveling for the tour we don’t get to see our friends like we planned.
Some of us celebrated big events in our lives alone. A few of us had to grieve the loss of loved ones alone. I know I would have been there for a few friends who were struggling with sad and stressful situations if I could have just traveled.
Since the pandemic, celebrating birthdays is now virtual parties on Zoom. One Zoom party turns into a 2nd Zoom chat. Now it’s been over 4 months since the original party and it’s a Saturday night “standing invitation”. It is something I look forward to all week. I am getting to know friends that I wouldn’t even be meeting in person since I won’t see a concert with them.
I have to give a shout out to the fans who take on the BIG project of starting their own podcast to connect with the fandom during this time. The two that I am proud of is:
FANGIRLS NIGHT OUT… I love this group of ladies. Brianne, Danielle, and fellow BSBFangirls Britt + Kelsey have started their Livestream events on September 10th and I am looking forward to many more.
The Frick & Frack Show with Matthew Taylor and Caleb Bryan just hosted their own “fan chat” on Zoom September 12, 2020. That was fun as BSBFangirl Cindy and I both participated interacting with fans from all over.
But personally for me the highlight for me was co-hosting with Karah the BSB Anniversary Watch party on April 23, 2020 on BSBFangirls Facebook page. 12 hours of Backstreet Boys. Performances, music videos and a very successful contest with awesome prizes. Just a couple of the fun videos created by Karah herself.
So although we are in our own homes, in our pajamas already, we can still be together and hang out.
I am looking forward to traveling again in 2021 and seeing all my friends in person, I am thankful for the technology we have today to still “be together.”
